Great Idea! Sounds like you have the Ambition, that's for sure! If your talent is 1/2 that strong, your gonna be a star for sure! Don't let little set-backs deter you in your goal either. I am not that familiar with N.Y.C., But I am sure ther are "Quite-A-Few" Workshops for you to join. Once you get some experience under your belt, others in your workshop will know-the-ropes of what to do next, know what I mean? You will be working with aspiring actors as well, so they will also teach you allot. Like what Agents to talk with, who are the best agencies, where Auditions are, Just everything.
